• Unique services for Unique Individuals

When it comes to Mental Health and Behaviour Support needs there are no two people who require the exact same service.  Whilst we group services into broad categories when you come in to Distinct Directions your clinician will take the time to learn about you and your needs to customise a service to suit you.

  • Telehealth

Telehealth gives us the opportunity to provide the supports and therapy inputs that you need when you cannot come in the Clinic.  Utilising the same theraputic modalities designed to suit your needs we are happy to engage with Videoconferencing or Teleconferencing.  We have worked to ensure that all of our platforms are compliant with Australian Data Protection Principles to ensure that your confidentiality is maintained.

  • Individual Therapy

Individual Psychological Therapy is a long-term process of talk-based therapies.  A therapy program is based on an assessment of your needs to develop strategies and tools to meet your goals and manage distress.  A therapy intervention is different for each person as it needs to provide strategies to meet your goals utilising your existing strengths and skills – its definitely not a ‘one size fits all’ process!   The strategies utilised at Distinct Directions are based on matching your circumstances to the existing evidence to provide interventions that work for you.
  • Couples Counselling

All relationships require careful thought and consideration and working with our therapists to develop new methods of working with challenges can have immense benefit.  Our therapists utilise evidence based relationship counselling rather than a "best guess" approach to work alongside all members of a relationship to reinforce care and compassion as well as forgiveness and the ability to move forward.
  • Positive Behaviour Support

Working within a Person Centered framework to assist people with Disabilities is a passion for many of our staff.  We understand that they key is to help the person at the centre of support to have their message heard and responded to well by those who support them - whilst meeting all of those obligations from the NDIS.

All of our clinicians are experienced and qualified within the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Framework and registered as clinicians under the NDIS.

  • Group Therapy

Group therapy sessions have similar principles as one-on-one sessions. These sessions are a safe place to work through problems in a relaxed, comfortable setting. Group therapy involves one or more of our trained psychologists who lead a group of roughly 3-7 depending on the purpose of the group and therapy modalities utilised. Engagement is based largely on Yalom’s principles of group therapy. Typically, groups meet for an hour or two each week. Some people attend one-on-one therapy sessions in addition to groups, while others participate in group therapy only.

Our groups are designed to target a specific problem such as depression, rage issues, improving social skills, addiction and other topics best addressed by a group. Groups can be especially helpful for people who have experienced grief, whether it is from the loss of a spouse, child, close friend, or someone who died by suicide.

What Therapy Services Do We Provide?

Each of our clinicians takes the approach that there is no "one size fits all" solution to the challenges that bring people in to visit our therapy community.

Different therapists have training in different modalities and we will work to ensure that both the Therapy Modality and the therapist are a good fit for you during the initial consult.  Our priority is helping you to make the changes and learn the skills needed to meet your goals, not making you fit a criteria to achieve a solution defined by other people's (or agencies) priorities.

Unique Plans

Starting with our Administration staff who will discuss some of your needs with you to ensure that you are serviced by a clinician with the right skills and passion for working your particular difficulty.  Every time you engage with Administration staff they will take on your challenge and push to get the best outcomes for each interaction.

Right Person

Therapeutic alliance or rapport is absolutely vital to any form of therapy and we want to get it right.  After the first session with your therapist they will ask you about if you feel you can trust them enough to confide in them.  If you do, wonderful! things are off to a good start but if there is something in your gut that just doesn't gel, dont worry - we will not be offended and will try and find you the right person in or out of our organisation.

Right Intensity

Some people are ready to take charge and zoom like they drive a Lamborghini - seeking maximum intensity for rapid progress.  Other people and their challenges require a steady and progressive approach over time.  Again, no simple answer but we will work with you to balance out your needs and desires against the treatment modality and severity of the challenges to find the right fit.

Right Therapy

After we meet, our therapists will determine the best therapy to assist with your challenges.  Using an evidence base of thousands of research efforts we understand what is the best 'text book' solution and then find a way to fit that to you - not you to that.

Right Plan

So when we have put these together to obtain the Right Person, Right Therapy and Right Intensity we will start implementing the Right Plan.

Using a combination of clinical judgement, sophisticated measurement tools and your judgement we will track the plan and ensure it stays on target to meet your goals.
