James Baker

"All behaviour is communication and everyone deserves to be heard."

Hi, my name is James Baker and I am a behavioural specialist. I have recently joined the team here, at Distinct Directions and I am thrilled to begin in this new role where I can share my knowledge, educate others and improve the quality of participants lives.

Since starting in disability support work back in 2015, I have always had a deep interest in supporting people with Challenging Behaviours and seek understand what drives the person and teach better methods of support and skills.  Through education and training, both to the person at the centre and their supporters we can achieve the desired outcomes. Over the next 5.5 years as a Team Leader of multiple high behavioural group homes, my experience and understanding grew and my curiosity turned into a passion.

Over the last 5.5 years I have participated in numerous study opportunities, some of which including Cert IV in disability, Person-centered programming, Positive behaviour support, Crisis intervention training, Guide to incident response training (G.I.R.T), Diploma in Leadership and Management and most recently I have been studying through the Institute of Applied Behaviour Analysis which has given me the knowledge and conduct comprehensive behavioural assessment.

I am excited to have the opportunity to continue learning and growing within my new role and to provide the best behavioural support I can.
I view learning and growth for everyone to be an ongoing and unceasing need and look forward to growing alongside participants and their supporters.
